In 1736, General James Oglethorpe established Fort Frederica on Saint Simons Island, Georgia to defend the British colony against Spanish attack from Florida.
Today, as a National Monument, the site preserves the original foundations and footprint of the settlement and fort.
Stately Spanish moss-covered live oak trees provide a breathtaking backdrop for a journey through America’s colonial past.
