Give ’em a hand! Hospital art collection draws tourists

A collection of bronze hands in an atrium at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas attracts curious looks from more than just hospital patients and their families — it’s become a true tourist attraction.

The art display in the lobby of George W. Truett Memorial Hospital features casts of the hands from more than 100 notable figures.

The hand collection includes everyone from astronauts, prominent surgeons, athletes, politicians, and other celebrities.

Perhaps even more interesting is the fact that these casts are the work of eminent hand surgeon, author, professor, and lecturer, Dr. Adrian Flatt. He died in 2017 and was the former chief of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor Medical Center.

I even found some of the most famous hands from East Texas — those of world famous pianist Van Cliburn!

The exhibit is free. The hospital is located at 3500 Gaston Avenue, near downtown Dallas.
