WATCH: The Eiffel Tower, a timeless landmark

Built for the 1889 World’s Fair to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, Paris’ Eiffel Tower was only intended to stand for 20 years.

More than 130 years later, it is known the world over as an architectural wonder.

Rising 1083 feet above the Seine River, Gustave Eiffel’s engineering masterpiece was completed in only 2 years, 2 months and 5 days.

With more than 7 million visitors each year, it is the most visited monument in the world.

The Olympic rings were added to the Eiffel Tower ahead of the 2024 Summer Games.
