WATCH: Monahans Sandhills, a Texas-sized natural sandbox

With dunes as high as 50 feet tall, the Monahans Sandhills in western Texas are part of a dune field that extends westward and north into New Mexico.

The 3,840 acres of semi-arid landscape at Monahans Sandhills State Park is located southwest of Odessa, Texas.

Some of the dunes have been stabilized by the root system of 4-foot-high Shin oaks in the largest oak forest in North America.
