WATCH: Future American President visits Tyler’s Polish sister city in 1800

Then-ambassador and future U.S. President John Quincy Adams visited Tyler, Texas’ sister city of Jelenia Góra, Poland in the year 1800. The city is still quite proud of this famous visit, even mentioning it in their tourism promotions.

The eventual 6th American President remarked, “Nothing can be more beautiful than the location of (Jelenia Góra), a beautifully built city with numerous splendid buildings, in a valley surrounded by hills on all sides, with the magnificent view of the Giant Mountains.”

On a diplomatic visit to Jelenia Góra in Fall 2022, an East Texas delegation enjoyed a lecture on Adams’ visit, given by Professor Jozef Zaprucki.
